Master and Reference Data Management Specialist

A large financial Service Company based in Johannesburg seeks a Master and Reference Data Management Specialist with:

Minimum Requirements

  • Professional Qualifications, Bachelors in Information Systems, Informatics, Computer Science
  • DAMA certified data management professional (CDMP), Six Sigma Black Belt , TQM, ISO9000 etc
  • 3 -8 years’ experience in Financial Services with at least 3 years Data Management experience.
  • Broad Understanding of Data Management Body Of Knowledge (DMBOK)
  • Understanding of Services Oriented Architecture (SOA)

Role Purpose:

The creation and maintenance of the enterprise frameworks, standards, processes and procedures applicable to the management of master and reference data for the organisation.   This role will ensure that Master and Reference data practices are aligned to industry, and mature the practice and entrench within operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Creation and maintenance of the enterprise frameworks, standards, processes and procedures applicable to the management of master and reference data for the organisation.
  • Consult on enterprise frameworks, standards, processes and procedures applicable to the management of master and reference data.
  • Ensure that Master and Reference data practices are aligned to industry, and mature the practice and entrench within operations.
  • Perform necessary change management, communication and train users in the processes as defined by the Centre of Excellence
  • Consult regarding new / changed requirements and issue resolution.
  • Perform root cause analysis and research on process exception and data issues
  • Gather, analyse and report on MRDM quality
  • Work closely with the business data managers (stewards), the project development teams and the user community to ensure that master and external / public reference data requirements are addressed and quality metrics are agreed.
  • Identify requirements for data quality and data integration for master data and external / public reference data entities.
  • Manage the data asset catalogue for external / public reference data
  • Define requirements with regards to Enterprise reference data management implementation supporting software and security roles and structures to enable the usage of the tool set.
  • Provide standard integration abilities to enable new consumers
  • Define Data Model Attributes, Classify them and define Hierarchies that are to be built and managed in the tool.
  • Facilitate the approval of tool loads for reference data, hierarchies & relationships
  • Ensure synergy between the operational reference data and the master data processes, integrated, unique and sharable across the enterprise.
  • Implement standard Process(s) to load and validate Enterprise reference data, synchronised across all business clusters and data sources.
  • Implement the base enterprise services for systems that consume reference data as per known user requirements.
  • Facilitate Data Quality and reporting requirements and identify any required data clean ups on sources before an import is done.
  • Facilitate the provision and distribution of a Business Glossary for reference data and put in place governance to maintain the glossary.(Link to metadata)
  • Understanding of data management processes and how they integrate in a corporate data management environment, like Data Quality, Data Integration and Metadata.
  • Able to demonstrate practical experience in working with Master and Reference, Data Quality, Data Integration and Metadata tools (Advantageous to be able to demonstrate practical experience in working with tools like IBM MDM, IBM RDM, SAP MDG or AB Initio).
  • Relevant regulatory knowledge, and understanding of banking and financial services master and reference data requirements
