Introduction
Our client in the Insuarance industry is urgently looking for a Linux Engineer to join their organisation.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux Servers, Physical or Virtual machines.
- Plan partitioning based on application.
- Set computer name.
- Configure IP address.
- Do clean-up, backup tasks if applicable.
- Setup alerting for critical services and capacity on servers with Solarwinds
- Securely integrate Linux Servers with Active Directory
- Join servers to domain with sssd/kerberos
- Request AD Engineer to Create OU on Active Directory if this is a new server group.
- Request AD Engineer to Create security group to allow specific admins login access to server.
- Apply security policy to enforce security group access.
- Monitor performance and capacity on Linux servers and plan upgrade paths.
- Monitor growth on Solarwinds to plan for increasing resources before production issues occur.
- Upgrade Linux Servers
- Run latest stable versions to ensure we are secure and can use latest technologies if the Business requires it.
- Make use of RHEL Satellite to patch servers
- Engage with third parties for backups of critical Linux Systems (Redstor, Dimension data)
- Confirm Backup Selections for Docstores (SMB File Shares), Databases etc.
- Ask for new backups after building new systems that will become critical business systems after they have been migrated to.
- Build servers ad hoc based on new business requirements.
- Monitor storage and arrange for the addition of Docstores(SMB File Shares) as well as increase of SAN attached storage on Linux Servers
- Arrange for a new Docstore(SMB File Share) and cutover if the current one fills up
- Increase SAN Attached storage if the need arises (LVM)
- Support Veritas Infoscale on Oracle Cluster
- Manage failover or freezing of the clusters
- Plan upgrade path and engage with vendor if so required.
- Increase SAN Attached storage if the need arises (VXFS)
- Support Docker Swarm Environments
- Build new Swarm Clusters if so required.
- Update Load Balancer to direct traffic to swarm if new services have been created.
- Plan and implement Docker upgrades and maintenance which is separate from OS upgrades.
- Linux OS support for all systems
- Engage with Vendors regarding licensing within my area and obtain renewal as well as new product quotes.
- Troubleshoot production related issues and find resolutions.
- Automate repetitive tasks to free up time and ensure there aren’t any configuration drift with in the Linux server environment. (Ansible)
- Knowledge of Ansible will be advantageous.
- Respond to support emails timeously.
- Test new application and software technologies that could save the business money in the long run.
- DR Testing, to gauge where gaps are with DR Plan within my area.
- Report potential security risks found through investigations to relevant team members.
- Drive Nessus Vulnerability findings with stake holders to address.
- Make use of RHEL Insights to measure security compliance against CIS Benchmark
- Assist in with containerization of applications where applicable.
- Keep up with new technologies within own area and upskill.
- Infrastructure Standby
- Infrastructure specific standby tasks which are not part technology area
