Data Management Specialist

A large financial Service Company based in Johannesburg seeks a Data Management Specialist with:

 Minimum Requirements

  • Matric
  • Degree in Information Technology or Business
  • Business degree, IT degree, Engineering degree (Industrial)
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification preferred, or 3-5 years of Lean
  • Management, Mathematical/Statistics
  • Data Management (DAMA) Certification, Certification/formal training in relevant technology
  • 10 years relevant experience
  • 5-7 years’ experience is in a data management /business role

Role Purpose:

To provide data management services for the Group Technology data domain.  Provides a comprehensive range of data management services to key GT stakeholders like GT Project Management, GT Quality Assurance and Infrastructure, GT HR, GT Customer Engagements/systems, GT Finance, GT Architecture, GT Application Development, GT Governance and Compliance, Group Risk and Retail Systems.

Responsibilities:

  • As a member of the GT DMO BDM Team, the BDM will engage with senior GT stakeholders to collect requirements for data improvements in its various services. The BDM will investigate and analyze these requirements; find and address data issues.
  • The BDM will perform the role of Data Quality Manager. The BDM will help develop, implement and manage a DQ framework and processes to ensure the improvement of data quality in conjunction with the GT DQ CoE.
  • The BDM acts as custodian and provider of various data related services for GT, in collaboration with various GT CoEs, as well as performing a practical data governance role to ensure alignment with Company and industry objectives, apply risk management data principles as well as to ensure the implementation and adherence to data controls.
  • The position will require strong communication and customer liaison skills, the ability to work independently, a strong analytical and data mind set, technical modelling and DQ skills and the ability to rally people to a common course.
  • The Business Data Manager is responsible for how the data and metadata in their domain is managed
  • The Business Data Manager is responsible for the quality of a defined dataset on day-to-day basis. For example, they will draft the data quality rules by which their data is measured
  • The Business Data Manager is responsible for the quality of data and meta data that is part of their functional area, and work to ensure that the governance policies are focused at the domain level
  • The Business Data Manager gets involved when standards are being developed for data elements within their data domain
  • The Business Data Manager will be involved when resolving issues pertaining to data in their domain
  • The Business Data Manager gets involved in documenting and communicating the rules and standards around the data in their domain
  • The Business Data Manager will be involved in projects and initiatives where their domain data is defined, produced and/or used
