Senior Programmer

A large financial Service Company based in Sandton, seeks a Senior Programmer with:

Minimum requirements

  • Matric
  • Diploma/Degree in IT / Programming.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in SAS, advanced macros, and SQL

Skills:

  • Advise management on the technical readiness, risk and impact of the proposed implementation to production (including effective change management)
  • Interpret the business requirements in order to create technical specifications across projects
  • Deliver and coordinate coding work tasks according to technical specifications
  • Accountability to ensure end to end testing through to sign off to ensure fault free production implementation
  • Good knowledge of SAS, including advanced macros, and SQL
  • Exposure to scheduling tools
  • Advanced debugging ability
  • Advance understanding of testing practices
  • Good understanding of data warehouse concepts
  • Knowledge of appliance technology such as Netezza will be a big plus
  • Exposure to IBM Banking Data Warehouse Model – preferably
  • Problem solving skills

Responsibilities:

  • Registration of files in the Data Warehouse Dev, QA and production environments
  • Develop, test and implement programs from supplied specifications to extract, transform and load data into various data warehouse marts using predominantly SAS, SQL and Netezza tools.
  • Perform root cause analysis and impact assessments and implement solutions
  • Peer review and Quality assure the output of colleagues
  • Optimisation of programs and applications
  • Perform a technical lead role and mentor and coach junior staff
  • Support all production-related incidents to ensure that tight daily SLAs are met
  • Professional application and demonstration of acquired knowledge across technologies, and/or in-depth speciality in a specific technology – e.g. SAS, and SQL
  • Actively participate in project teams as a core project member (incl cross functional forums and external parties)
  • Take responsibility for incident fixes and manage to closure (focus on live environment)
