SENIOR AUDIT MANAGER

 Minimum requirements

  • Works for Big 4 Consulting or Banking firms

Role Purpose:

To provide strategic leadership and guidance to teams in providing independent assurance of the control environment to the Company Group Limited Board of Directors via the Group Audit Committee and Subsidiary Audit Committees  including Old Mutual Plc. and to ensure effective risk management practices are implemented across Nedbank and the African Subsidiaries

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure reports issued by audit team reflect a balanced holistic view and monitor quality, appropriate language, accuracy, appropriateness and consistency of risk ratings, as well as timeliness of reporting to meet business requirements.
  • Agree annual audit plan per cluster with stakeholders, through formal engagements, to ensure that relevant risks (risks that matter) are audited by managers and teams.
  • Prepare and manage area budget by forecasting, tracking and authorising expenditure as well as regularly liaising with finance department to discuss budget and take corrective action.
  • Monitor time-sheets and billing for resource management by reviewing against agreed assignment deliverables to ensure teams are productive in terms of scorecard measures.
  • Manage productivity by monitoring own productivity levels and productivity levels of team to ensure that all individual and department results are delivered within budget to deadlines.
  • Manage the delivery of audit reports, by managers and teams, on time, within budget and required quality standards, through managing the audit process to provide Company and Group Audit Committee with risk based assurance.
  • Provide required management information (e.g. audit plan and findings management, billing), by reviewing submissions of managers and teams, to ensure progress and strategic contributions made to various clusters are tracked and according to required standard
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand their current business reality, requirements, risks, strategy and expectations to manage stakeholder expectations, build networks and trusting relationships while becoming the key point of reference for clients at executive level.
  • Provide input into relevant committees by consolidating audit results from teams and where applicable, attend key meetings with clients, to provide a holistic view of the key risks in their business.
  • Provide stakeholder guidance and education on best practice and effective risk management to ensure key risks are mitigated and build long-term relationships.
  • Participate in industry peer forums (e.g. financial institutions, professional bodies, external auditors) to build networks, share knowledge, keep abreast of trends and raise the profile of the Company and GIA.
  • Provide guidance and proactively share knowledge with managers and teams through formal and informal interaction to ensure best practice is delivered to stakeholders and trusted relationships are built
  • Implement operational plans for teams by translating and cascading GIA Strategy into operational and project plans and scorecards to ensure that GIA strategic objectives are tracked and met.
  • Identify audit universe and key risks impacting the business by conducting research, keeping abreast of market trends and engaging with stakeholders to ensure that key risks are considered and addressed in the annual audit plan and reassessed as required.
  • Interact with GIA colleagues to gain and share information to eliminate unnecessary duplication and gaps in the annual audit plan that will enable the provision of assurance on key risks to stakeholders.
  • Review and ensure resource allocations and capacity planning within the team by matching capacity against agreed annual audit plan to ensure agreed annual audit plan deliverables are achieved.
  • Jointly present Audit plan at divisional or cluster level so as to obtain approval and sign-off of the audit plan.
  • Monitor and review consistency of own teams, as well as quality of all work in terms of audit methodology, by reviewing the scoping documents, audit reports and a sample of key components, within the audit file, and provide feedback and guidance to teams to ensure compliance with methodology and alignment to agreed audit plan.
  • Monitor progress against audit plan by monitoring the GIA dashboards and engagement with teams, to ensure delivery of annual audit plan and to take corrective action where necessary.

  • Manage performance of managers by implementing performance agreements, ensuring goals and objectives are agreed and met by managers and team, give regular feedback, recognise and reward achievement and take appropriate corrective action where required.
  • Attract, recruit, retain and grow quality staff, managing talent, identifying future potential and taking personal responsibility for coaching and training of managers and staff to ensure management of succession and talent and to ensure an environment for optimal performance is created.
  • Create an environment of teamwork by engaging with managers and staff, keeping managers informed, encouraging managers to participate in decision-making processes and motivate staff to perform and contribute to the success of Group Internal Audit.
  • Ensure managers and staff understand and embrace the Nedbank Vision and Values by leading by example and re-enforcing values to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Delegate authority and responsibility, in line with business objectives, to ensure the empowerment, motivation and effectiveness of managers.
  • Engage with managers and staff to disseminate information, share knowledge and insight and solicit feedback to ensure energised and effective Group Internal Audit
  • Identify areas of non-compliance with laws, regulations, and guidelines through the audit reporting process.
  • Provide timely guidance and feedback through audit reports issued to ensure others comply with laws, regulations, and guidelines to improve the control culture.
  • Ensure self, managers and team participation in Company Culture building initiatives (e.g. Surveys etc.) contributing to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals and to support business strategies that improve the corporate image.
  • Ensure that managers encourage staff to participate and support corporate social responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy (e.g. Green Strategy).
  • Foster transformation of the workplace and support the Company and GIA in the achievement of the BEE initiatives and transformation targets, by ensuring that self and managers create and contribute to an environment where diversity is valued so that Company meets its transformation goals.
  • Offer innovative ideas and input to GIA and/or stakeholders and solicit input from managers and teams to improve work processes so that productivity is improved and costs are reduced.
  • Create an environment whereby managers and team are encouraged to challenge the status quo by initiating constructive debates about work practices and areas for improvement so that continuous improvement goals are achieved.
